Roland Emmerich Going Avatar With Asimov’s Foundation

Now there’s a title. You can’t just pull a title out of a lower orifice like that one, no no, it’s takes years of practice citizen. Roland Emmerich, famously fond of epically demonstrated opposing physical forces juxtaposed with people running around screaming, arms akimbo, is planning on soon producing and directing the quite cerebral saga told in Issac Asimov’s Foundation series of books. I did read them, or some of them, in the long ago time when I had an attention span, but I must admit to hitting up the great Wiki for any kind of relevant synopsis;

Vin Diesel Confirmed For Third Riddick Film

Well, it’s a done deal. Our man Vin Diesel has been confirmed for a third “Chronicles of Riddick” flick. David Twohy, who wrote and directed both “Pitch Black” and “The Chronicles of Riddick”, will direct Mr. Diesel again from a screenplay he wrote.

Flash Forward Gets New Bosses

With the exit of David Goyer from the show running duties for ABC’s Flash Forward, the ship has been left rudderless, adrift on the merciless seas of network television.

Escape From New York Finds Life

The original “Escape From New York” starred bad ass Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, criminal and scoundrel who is released from his incarceration to rescue the President Of the United States Of America after his plane crashes into Manhatten, now a prison for extreme n’er do wells.

Dune Gets A Script Writer Fixer

Frank Herbert’s Sci-Fi epic of epics “Dune” is getting a movie redo from the kinda cheesy David Lynch effort from back in the big hair days of 1984. Josh Zetumer has written the new script with Pierre Morel from “From Paris With Love” and “Taken” fame directing. It seems that Pierre is looking to tidy up the existing script and has brought his “Taken” script writer Chase Palmer (his real name) into the fray to inject a little more of Pierre’s sandy vision into “Dune”.

Akira Lives! Book of Eli Directors in Talks to Direct

Akira lives! Again! Ahem. According to NYMag’s Vulture blog, the brothers Hughes (that would be Allen and Albert, FYI) are currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to helm the studio’s sure-to-be expensive and epic live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s seminal manga/anime “Akira”, which recently got a major boost when Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way came onboard as producers. The Hughes brothers, of course, recently turned in the post-apocalyptic “Book of Eli” for the studio, so they’re no stranger to apocalyptic action.

Reporting On The Live Action Gantz Movie An Excuse To Show This Picture

I’m not sure what “Gantz” is. Let’s see now…hmm. Mr. Google, please. Oh yes.

Gantz is a Japanese manga and anime series written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku. Gantz tells the story of Kei Kurono and his friend Masaru Kato who die in a train accident and become part of a semi-posthumous “game” in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed with a handful of futuristic items of equipment and weaponry.

Michael Shanks Thinks SG-1′s Time has Passed, No More Movies

In an interview with SciFi Wire (via Airlock Alpha) to promote his guest stint on the “Smallville: Absolute Justice” TV movie, “Stargate” alum Michael Shanks sounds very pessimistic about ever going through the stargate ever again. Which means, of course, if you’ve been waiting for a third direct-to-DVD “Stargate: SG1″ movie, you should probably stop right now.

Dubai Is The Future Coruscant

Coruscant is the capitol city of the “Star Wars” universe for all you non Nerds out there just checking into Scificool to see how your neurons could be functioning. Dubai (if it remains solvent) is the instant Sci-Fi city of your dreams if you had billions and billions and maybe billions of oil cash and you wanted to create something in the sand that will remain after the oil gets eaten like your milkshake.

Darth Vader As He Might Have Been

Just a little nod to all you Darth Daddy lovers out there. This is a full sized new helmet for the Sith Dark Lord based on early concept renderings from genius Ralph McQuarrie. The helmet is leather lined and a touch more obviously menacing than the helmet that would eventually encapsulate the scarred dome of the morally confused Anakin Skywalker.

Hear Darth Vaders Voice Before The Evil Treatments

Of course, most of you know that the guy running around in the Darth Vader getup in “Star Wars” was not the owner of Darth’s singular bad ass voice (James Earl Jones) but David Prowse, an English man and a fine sturdy lad, but with a voice like Mr Smithers.

Tron Legacy Director Joseph Kosinski Sheds Some Light On The Black Hole

Joseph Kosinski is pretty busy finishing up what I’m certain will be the awesome “Tron: Legacy” starring Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde. Joseph’s next project will be the “reimaging” of Disney’s “Black Hole” which was Disney’s kind of answer to “Star Wars”. The original was pretty nifty, even though Disney tried a little too hard to make some of the robots cute.

Fringe’s Anna Torv Has A Naughty Side

There is something about sexy librarian types. The only thing Anna Torv, who plays paranormal investigator Olivia Dunham on Fringe, needs to completely disable my fore brain is a nice conservative pair of glasses. Anna, an Australian for those not in the know, has appeared in Esquire magazine in the women they love section in more casual dress than she appears in on Fringe. She is sun lit and gorgeous. Below is Anna in her glory. Thanks Scifiwire for the tip.

Terminator Movie Rights Sold: More Killer Robots To Follow?

In a late night bidding war brouhaha, the film rights to the “Terminator” franchise was sold to Pacificor for 29.5 million, out bidding both Sony and Lionsgate. The previous owner, Halcyon Holding Corp will get 5 million for every new “Terminator” film and they will get to continue to milk the revenues from Terminator 3 and 4. Terminator 4 (Salvation) made over 350 million worldwide.
