Robert Rodriquez is a hard guy to pin down. Lots of shiny little stories catch his eye. He seems just about to put a script to screen when something else will capture his attention and off he’ll go. Robert just finished or is finishing “Predators”, directed by Nimród Antal and is now leafing through his prospects to see what’s down the line for him.

Parallel Lines Features Two Great Looking Sci-Fi Shorts
Back a bit, Adam Berg directed “Carousel”, an amazing piece of film, freeze framing in a 2 minute and 19 second tracking shot a robbery gone horribly wrong. It was epic and was chosen as the Film Grand Prix Winner at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
Angelina Jolie to Star in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity – UPDATED
Alfonso Cuaron’s “Children of Man” was a pretty slam-banging good piece of sci-fi, I have to admit, so I’m excited the Mexican director has decided to stay in the realm of sci-fi with his new movie, “Gravity”. Based on a script by Cuaron and his son Jonas, “Gravity” is a “Moon”-ish thriller about the sole surviving human member of a space mission who is desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter. NYMag’s Vulture blog has Angelina Jolie in line to play the sole survivor, and in doing so, Jolie has abandoned Universal’s “Wanted” sequel. The role would require a lot of lone time for Jolie, thus the comparison to Duncan Jones’ sleeper sci-fi hit “Moon”.
New Repo Men Images and Hunt For Cash
Just the other day I was lamenting Universal’s lack of promotion for their big-budget sci-fi movie “Repo Men”. Turns out, they might just be biding their time, because this came in the e-mail today. A new batch of images and a “Repo Men are Coming” hunt, a type of viral campaign to promote the show. More info on the “hunt” below, then after that, new images from the movie.
New Tron Legacy Image From all That Viral Stuff
There is apparently some viral stuff going on for “Tron 2″, but honestly, I just don’t care to run around looking for clues. I suppose if you really, really love the idea of chasing around the Internet for scraps of info it could be fun. Or you could just sit there and wait until the goodies are found and released, which is what I do. Here’s the latest, a new pic from “Tron: Legacy” via CBM.
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (2010) Movie Review
So first things first, a little history and clarification on this project. This film started life as a script written by Dwayne McDuffie (Justice League/JLU) to bridge the gap between “Justice League” and what was initially pitched as a spin-off show but became “Justice League Unlimited.” When JLU became a continuation of the JL the film was scrapped, but the idea eventually became the episode “A Better World” featuring the “Justice Lords,” totalitarian versions of the Justice League. The original script titled “Justice League: Worlds Collide,” which borrowed ideas from an old Gardner Fox “Crisis” storyline that first introduced the “Crime Syndicate”, and Grant Morrison’s “Earth 2,” which reintroduced the group into modern day, was shelved but remained a plausible idea for DC’s then upcoming series of direct to DVD films. Years later with a few tweaks to make it follow a continuity not connected to the JL/JLU universe, but still great if you were a fan of the show.
The Flotsom And Jetsam Of Our Sci-Fi Society Reborn As Art
Sculptor Sayaka Ganz has a nice brain. I’d love to scan him. In other art forms, the canvas and materials used to create an art piece are usually static. It’s the art that is dynamic. For Sayaka, he has to imagine and conceive the tools, the medium and the artwork. At a distance, his sculptures of horses, dogs and other things are dramatic and amazingly organic. Close up, the elements in the sculptures are made of thrown away pieces of techno fluff. It’s all an assembly of spoons, wire, toys and other junk. It’s a head shaking achievement. Check out the shots below with special attention to the horses that frankly blow my mind. Thanks io9.
The Original Star Trek Cast Reunion In Full 70′s Glory
Back in Chicago, someplace in 1975, the entire original cast of Star Trek were somehow yanked together for a full out, b52 bomber lapeled reunion. The film of this lofty event, held at the Chicago Hilton in front of a 200 proof nerd assembly of 16,000, looks more like the zapruder film then a Sci-Fi television show get together. Everyone looks fantastic, especially George Takei, who is sporting a serious garment. Nichelle Nichols looks fro-delicious as well. Here’s the film, no sound, just some adoring narration from Rich Portnoy. Thanks Scifiwire.
Eliza Dushku Moves On From Dollhouse In A Bikini
These pictures show a happy and surfing Eliza Dushku from the ominous, non surfer vibed “Open Graves”. She’s happy because she just did a bitchin air to fakie and obviously not because of the premise behind the movie, described thusly.
A group of surfers discover an old board game that claims a life every time it’s played.
AVP’s Brothers Strause Battle More Alien Menace in Skyline
Most people didn’t dig Greg and Colin Strause’s “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem”, but I was one of those who gleefully loved every second of the slaughterfest. Sure, the film had way too many characters and it was all action all the time, but what else do you want from your “Aliens” and “Predator” movies? I say the brothers knew what I wanted and gave it to me, and because of that, I’m looking forward to their follow-up, the very cool sounding “Skyline”.
Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhaal Were Almost Jake Sully in Avatar
Here’s a little odds and ends about the biggest moneymaker of all time, James Cameron’s “Avatar”. The LATimes has a “what if” article that says, according to Cameron himself, before he gave the role to Sam Worthington in “Avatar”, he actually offered Jake Sully up to Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhaal first, but both men turned him down.
Hey, Remember Repo Men? Two New Posters Show Up
For a film with its budget and A-list cast, Miguel Sapochnik’s sci-fi actioner “Repo Men” sure doesn’t seem to be getting a whole lot of love from the studio in terms of PR. There was the trailer, and some posters (two of which are below), but that’s about it. The film is opening in a month, and most people don’t even know what it’s about. That could change, but it’s doubtful the studio is suddenly going to throw money at it as the release date nears. Anyways, two new posters have popped up online. The first looks like a cool Frank Miller drawing, but the second one is just not even trying.
Peter Berg’s Battleship to Buck 3D Trend
Gasp! Shudder! Peter Berg’s tale of high seas alien battles “Battleship” won’t be shot in 3D. Or at least, there’s no plan to do so right now as the film gears up for production, but that could very well change after the film is in the can, as studios can now pay a hefty check to get their films “3D-ized” on a whim. Of course, the chances are that the film will end up as 3D, and as much as I hate the fad, the movie’s action would definitely lend itself to the process. Hell, at least making “Battleship” 3D makes more sense than, say, 90% of the bullshit that Hollywood is currently turning into a 3D movie.
District 9 Co-Writer Chooses Sci-Fi Short Terminus For Next Project
Terri Tatchell, with an Oscar nomination in her pants for co-writing “District 9″ alongside Neill Blomkamp, is working on adapting the wicked and bizarre short film “Terminus” for her next writing project. She’s apparently on her second draft, trying hard to figure out a way to make what you are about to see make sense to a “District 9″ size audience.
New Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor (Who) Teaser Promo
BBC America has released a new teaser promo for their latest Doctor Who, to be played by Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor, and Karen Gillan as his new comely companion Amy Pond. The new “Doctor Who” series starts up again in Spring 2010 on BBC America. I’m sure the show will continue its trend of wacky alien encounters, time travel, and what have you. This is “Doctor Who”, after all. The Doctors may change faces, but the show seems to always keep on chugging along.
