So apparently there was some kind of big awards show or some such in Hollywood over the weekend. You may or may not have heard something about it. In any case, during one of those shindigs that only celebrities are invited to, the original Barbarella herself, Jane Fonda finally met the dishy Kate Bosworth, and made this proclamation:
Men In Black 3 Finally Ramping Up
“Men In Black 1″ and 2 made a whack ton of money. While the sequel was not in the league of the first installment, it still dropped 440 million into the laps of our fine feathered friends at Columbia Pictures. MIB2 came out in 2002, almost 10 years ago. Has Columbia stopped enjoying money?
Weird Sci-Fi Short Connected Defies My Normal Ability To Phrase A Catchy Caption
I’ve watched this very well done, compelling and deeply bizarre Sci-Fi short “Connected” a couple of times now, trying desperately to find a hook that will lead to a pithy caption or comment, but I can’t find anything. The thing is Sci-Fi Teflon for my imagination. Or maybe it’s Monday.
Fox Renews Fringe for Third Season
Well looky here — FOX seems to have some honest to goodness faith in a sci-fi show for once, because the network has renewed the J.J. Abrams-produced “Fringe” for a third season, despite the show suffering some ratings decline after its recent move to a new timeslot. Usually genre shows, especially sci-fi, don’t fare very well on FOX, but to get a second season, much less a third one? That’s practically unheard of over at FOX post-”X-Files”.
New Iron Man 2 Trailer Arrives
Tis the season for kick ass movie trailers. Summer is coming and with it comes Tony Stark and the Invincible Iron Man. Oh and we finally get a little video taste of fan favorite Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow. Robert Downey Jr. is so good it pains me to think of the movies he didn’t get to make while he was getting his considerable shit together. “Iron Man 2″ also stars Sam Rockwell, Don Cheadle Gwyneth Paltrow Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson. Opens May 7th (soon!)
First Full Tron: Legacy Trailer Makes its Way Online
Okay, so it’s a pretty shitty bootleg version that someone put up on YouTube. The official high-def version will be making its way online tomorrow, March 8, after which we will swap it, but until then, try to make out the “Tron” stuff from the darkness. Hey, it’s not pretty, but it’s better than nothing, right? Glad to see Bruce Boxleitner back in action on the big screen. Or at least, I think that’s Bruce. Kinda hard to tell, but the voice sounds like him… Update: The non-bootleg version has now been added.
Olivia Wilde To Add Sexy To The Mashup Of Cowboys And Aliens
Olivia Wilde, of House and the soon to be Sci-Fi Queen of TRON: Legacy, is about to play Ella, the chick lead in “Cowboys And Aliens” alongside Daniel Craig (A replacement for Robert Downey Jr.). Olivia was walking the carpet of the Independent Spirit Awards recently when MTV got their mitts on her. They quizzed her on how director Jon Favreau plans to get the “Cowboys And Aliens” graphic novel on screen in any way recognizable as a followable movie. We’ve got the video. Olivia looks lovely.
Alien Prequel To Drool Acid On Us In 3D
Can’t say it comes as a big surprise, but the news has struck via the cool kids at Shadowlocked that Ridley Scott is powering his prequel to his seminal “Alien”, in the big 3D. Now before you roll your eyes and call this whole 3D thing a fad, you better stop and just get used to it scooter, 3D rules and it’s here to stay.
Stargate: Universe Second Half Promo Reveals Space Battles, Aliens, and Michael Shanks
Space battles? Honest to goodness aliens? Michael Shanks in an extended cameo on the ship? That seems to be where the second half of “Stargate: Universe’s” first season is headed. And yes, I’m afraid the ship is still very dark and moody, the camera is still very shaky, people are still shagging in corridors, and everyone is still very conflict-y. So if those were things you didn’t dig about Season 1′s first half, I’m afraid that isn’t going to change anytime soon. So basically, deal with it and tune in, or go watch something else and stop yer bitchin’.
Timur Bekmambetov Takes An Alien Invasion To Russia In Darkest Hour
Timur Bekmambetov, director of “Wanted” and “Day Watch” and producer of “9″, will produce the oncoming “Darkest Hour”, which is being is described as “28 Days Later” meets tentacled alien invaders in Russia. A group of kids struggle to survive in some unnamed Russian city after the saucers land and everyones civil rights are violated.
CW Renews Smallville for 10th Season
The CW has officially announced a 10th season of their aging Superman show (or whatever it is they call him on the show — what, the Dull Blur, right?). Despite moving to Friday nights, where genre shows usually go to die, “Smallville” somehow bucked the trend and continued to bring in decent ratings for the CW. All the main actors are expected back for the 10th go-round, including star Tom Welling. And why wouldn’t he? If he came back for a ninth season already, what’s one more?
Biological Sci-Fi Horror Splice Gets A Release Date
Vincenzo Natali’s film “Splice”, which is getting some pretty good reviews (Sundance Film Fest), is being rewarded for it’s Sci-Fi goodness with a trip to a multiplex in a multi-verse near you on June the 4th.
Disney Developing Tron and Avengers Animated Series
With their “Tron” sequel due out sometime in December of this year, Disney isn’t quite sitting on their laurels waiting for the money to roll in on neon lightcycles. The studio is already developing an animated series to be based on the franchise, as well as a new “Avengers” animated TV series that will make use of their recently acquired Marvel Universe catalog.
Lego Blade Runner And Star Wars As Epic As You Would Hope
Hard to fully describe the complete heights of awesome that both of these LEGO Sci-Fi dramas reach in their portrayals of the Roy Batty death scene in “Blade Runner” and a made up but wicked light saber battle, “Star Wars” style. I love people with ridiculous amounts of time on their hands. Thanks Topless Robot.
New TRON: Legacy Shot FlashBacks To An Older Tron World
There’s a new TRON: Legacy shot out today, continuing the irritating trickle of media from what will probably be the “Avatar” of this year. In this shot we see what mysteries may lie beneath the dust covers on curious old school arcade machines.
