Orlando Bloom to Escape Andrew Niccol’s The Cross

Sci-Fi Movie News, The Cross Movie — By Nix on February 5, 2009

Andrew Niccol is a fine director, but he’s had plenty of hits and misses in his relatively short career. After 1997’s “Gattaca”, which he wrote and directed, he followed with the well-received “Truman Show”, before dropping stinkers like “Simone” and “Lord of War”. For his latest project, Niccol returns to the near-future with “The Cross”, a sci-fi movie that will star Orlando Bloom as a man who seeks to cross a mysterious border, a feat no one has ever achieved before. He’ll be joined by Vincent Cassell and Olga Kurylenko (”Max Payne”), the former playing the man who must stop him, and the latter playing his love interest.

More from Variety:

Set in a border town, “Cross” returns Niccol — Oscar-nommed for writing “The Truman Show” — to his favorite domain: the near future. Bloom plays a man seeking to cross a mysterious border, something no one else has achieved; Cassel limns the guard who will go to any lengths to foil him. Kurylenko takes the femme lede.

I haven’t a clue what “limns” or “lede” means. I’m guessing it’s just more silly made-up shite by the Variety writers, who seems to delight in just making up words for their stories. But I digress.

“The Cross” is an international production budgeted at $24 million and will start principal photography in July Down Under.

Below: Olga Kurylenko will probably play a woman who takes her clothes off in the movie. She likes to do that, you know.
