Open Discussion Thread: The New V Pilot

Anna and her Visitor buddies are about to touch down tonight on ABC (in case you missed the gazillion commercials on TV last night), and this is your open discussion thread to talk about the pilot. Did you love it? Hate it? Somewhere in-between?

I saw a version of the pilot a while back in San Diego during Comic Con, and enjoyed it. (Read that review here.) Word is, the pilot showing tonight has some new footage, new scenes, and a spiffier ending thanks to some highly-publicized reshoots. That’s probably a good idea, because the original ending was a little … tame. Hopefully they won’t change too much.

“V” premieres tonight on ABC 8/9 Central.

Does anyone know when the pilot will re-air? or where I can see it online? My dvr screwed up and didn't record it and now I can't find it anywhere.

Go to Abc.com. They probably have it on for free for the next week.

Well, I gave it a shot to soothe the lack of any good sci-fi shows in my life. And this really blew. In a bad way.

Boring, poor acting, lame plot and character development… I agree. A total snoozefest. I won't be watching the second ep.

I find it interesting that the Nazi fascist theme of the original is replaced (so far) by Obama “socialist” references to universal health care and hope. It's also an intriguing commentary on our society that the heroes of the original were scientists and intellectuals and (so far) the heroes in the remake an FBI agent and a hunky priest. Lastly, the original had a diverse cast whose heroes came from many races. I wonder if that diversity will be represented in the remake?

As long as it keeps up with the Obama admin references and has the intrigue of what's going on currently in America as Jen pointed out, I will watch. If it “goes green” or has liberal propaganda….I'm not watching. We need an idea of what's really going on and I think that this show has the promise of doing just that.

The series was poorly cast. A young white male priest? When did anyone see one of those lately? Would have been better to cast that role as a Hispanic of Asian priest. The visitor traitor is keeping with the original series of the 80's but to have him falling in love with a human when he is a walking reptile is a hard one to believe. If he loved humans so much and wanted to stay on earth, a better role for him in this movie would be a researcher in the scientific community in order to help us.

Also, if these aliens were here for so long they would have realized that most societies value wise elders more as their leaders then young attractive people. Therefore, a beautiful young female would be viewed with suspicion. Also, the reporter who is manipulated folds all too easy under her spell.

Lastly, does anyone really believe that a visitor would have let some guy get away wounded no less with a bunch of photos of them?

On a positive note, I like the female FBI agent – though she ought to call up back up more often as she tends to go sole way too much. I also like the story line, at least as I remember it back in the 80's

On a 1 to 5 stars for this review I give three stars, (one star being hope).

I really, really liked it … I think it has much to say and has started to say it. The actors seem to be very strong and it does not have an once of cheesy sci-fi … that I have seen far too many times.

Anna is hot in a very spooky way.

Let's give it a chance kids, I want to see where this takes us. Just my opinion … don't beat me up.

I liked it. I didn't watch any of the previous incarnations, so this particular theme is new to me as a TV series.
I liked the choices of characters, and can rationalize reasons for all of their behaviors/appearances.
Perhaps I'm able to suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy watching Sci-fi. Those posters that hated the show so much that they felt the need to freak out over it might be better off not torturing themselves by watching it.

I thought it was terrible. Any society capable of this type of invasion should have evolved beyond the reptile stage. Seems like a long dragged out remake of the hour and a half “independence day”. Lizards with a thick skin capable of concealing the lumps??? They must be some skinny scrawny reptiles. A couple of fly bys with some turbo props loaded with insecticide should put this one out of its misery

    • eviltwo

to be fair i think independance day ripped off the original v

      • brotherblasphemy718

        agreed!

    • brotherblasphemy718

insecticide on lizards? hahaha….. NO, maybe if you scored some of that “red dust” from the original V mini series you would be in business!

I watched V tonight with some hesitiation, hoping for the best but expecting the worst. There are so many sci fi shows out there lately that are totally lackluster. but this one surprised me , i really liked it and was sorry to see it end. I think that anna was perfectly cast in her evil underpinings that she has. I also loved that a visitor cell was active, good thinking on the side of the writiers , so far so good hoping the rest of the season matches up , cant wait to see the rest.

No doubt that nothing is gonna top the original V mini series…but this is still entertaining and worth of watching in my opinion…
