New Amsterdam Premiere Scores High Ratings
New Amsterdam TV Series, Sci-Fi TV News — By Nix on March 5, 2008 |
I’m really not sure how much faith you can put in this news of New Amsterdam’s high ratings for its premiere episode from last night. Why do I say that? Because although I liked the show, and will be watching it, the premiere had a major boost from FOX’s American Idol, and let’s face it, you could put a show about an old lady reading a grocery list from her basement on after American Idol and it would still get pretty decent ratings. But hey, why look a gift horse in the mouth? Good news is good news, right?
More:
“Amsterdam,” about an immortal New York City detective, has been pushed around the schedule this season and critic reviews were lukewarm. But last night’s debut was the second highest-rated show of the night after “Idol” (28.2 million viewers, 10.5 preliminary adults 18 to 49 rating and a 26 share) which dipped 5% from last week to hit a Tuesday night season low. “Amsterdam” (13.7 million, 4.6/11) retained 44% of the “Idol” rating, down a tick from the 46% held by last year’s “The Wedding Bells.”
The real test is when FOX moves New Amsterdam away from American Idol. Let’s hope they don’t do that very soon, so New Amsterdam gets as many chance as possible to make it.
