I have to admit, I wasn’t a big fan of the original Knight Rider TV show, but I did give the recent reincarnation a chance when it first surfaced earlier this year. I also tuned in for the premiere of the ongoing TV show, but tuned out about 30 or so minutes later. The whole thing just looked … cheesy. What can I say? Even the treat of seeing the gorgeous Deanna Russo in her undies for about 10 minutes of the pilot didn’t do anything for the show’s overall quality. The backstory for the lead character also came across as incredibly cliche, and then they introduced some supposedly badass girl with a past to the hero, and … well, that’s pretty much when I tuned out of the pilot and haven’t come back since.

Apparently I wasn’t the only one. Ratings for the new show haven’t exactly been great, but that’s not going to stop NBC from ordering four more scripts of the show, probably in hopes that the ratings pick up in-between now and then.

Variety has more:

NBC is showing some faith in “Knight Rider,” ordering four more scripts of the frosh drama from Universal Media Studios.

Update of the 1980s talking car skein has performed so-so overall in the ratings but has had traction with young men in its Wednesday 8 p.m. slot in three airings.

Skein has averaged 7.3 million viewers to date and 2.4 rating/7 share in adults 18-49. Its best showing so far has been in the men 18-49 demo (2.7).

I can see how guys would love this show. It’s slick, looks expensive, and the girls on the show are smoking hot. The rest, though? Ugh.

I suppose if new showrunner Gary Scott Thompson keeps putting Deanna Russo in a bikini or lingerie, the ratings may pick up a bit, or stay steady enough for NBC to give the show a full season order. I can’t see it happening, but then again, Thompson’s Las Vegas wasn’t exactly the model of quality, either, and it lasted what, five years?

Below: Forget KITT, just give me more Deanna Russo.
