Michael Taylor and Ronald D. Moore’s Virtuality Pilot On Fox’s Summer Radar

On July 4th, Fox will air BattleStar creators Michael Taylor and Ronald D. Moore’s new Sci-Fi series hopeful “Virtuality”.

“Virtuality” is about life aboard the Phaeton, mankind’s first starship. Shipboard existence on the Phaeton is apparently pretty realistic. A bunch of people, locked together in a tiny ship on a 10 year journey. To prevent the crew from going Space Crazy like Ren and Stimpy, the crew uses virtual reality to get away from the claustrophobia and burning desire to jam a space widget into the nearest crewman’s back.

All is well until something malevalent infects the program controlling those virtual visions of campfires on the beach or ski bunnies in Whistler. Trapped in a tiny tin can, elbow to elbow with smelly spacemen and spacewomen with your only escape an evil horrorshow? Sounds terrific! Like I said, Fox has got the 2 hour extravaganza on July 4th at 8:00 EST. The cast includes Clea DuVall, Erik Jensen, Gene Farber, James D’Arcy, Jimmi Simpson, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Joy Bryant, Kerry Bishe, Nelson Lee, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Omar Metwally, Richie Coster and Sienna Guillory. The pilot was directed by Peter Berg.  Thanks Scifiwire.

Fox you piss me off. I'll agree with several of the comments made by this article's writer. Get a clue and stop dumping shows on a night that has already proven to provide lackluster ratings. I didn't even realize this movie (possible t.v. series) was even going to be released until I stumbled across it on HULU. Maybe the idea of providing advertising for an upcoming show might be a good idea. While I was not a big fan of Dollhouse the premature writing off of sci fi series such as this and FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is horribly disappointing. There exists the potential to develop a solid fan base and a community of devoted followers (also known as advertising revenue) instead you continue to subject your viewers to the monotony of reality shows with asinine concepts as a substitute for good writing.

As a side not I also find it disconcerting that FOX would think it an honor with end credits mentioning Nora O'Brien and then not follow up on the pilot.
–”At the Sci Fi cable channel, O'Brien worked on shows including “Battlestar Galactica,” “Stargate Atlantis” and the acclaimed mini-series “The Lost Room.” “
