In an interview with SciFi Wire (via Airlock Alpha) to promote his guest stint on the “Smallville: Absolute Justice” TV movie, “Stargate” alum Michael Shanks sounds very pessimistic about ever going through the stargate ever again. Which means, of course, if you’ve been waiting for a third direct-to-DVD “Stargate: SG1″ movie, you should probably stop right now.

“Never say never. It’s always a possibility. But I think everybody’s moving on to a certain point, and with the new show doing well, everybody’s focusing their attention on that. The ‘SG-1’ idea is somewhat on the back burner, which is a little bit unfortunate, because I think one more story would have been a great way to bring Rick [Anderson] back in and really go there. But you know, business is business.”

One of the main reasons why I believe there hasn’t and probably won’t be any new “Stargate” movies (either with the “SG1″ or “Atlantis” crew) is the existence of “Stargate: Universe”. As long as that show remains on the air, I don’t see the producers dividing up their time and resources to “go back” (as they probably see it) to the old days. Right now, “Universe” is just so incongruous with the rest of the “Stargate” universe, I’m sure everyone who has a stake in the new show don’t want to remind people that “Stargate” existed before “Universe”, for better or worst.

Universe is starting to bore me, but a shower scene with everyone's favorite space Lt. would change all that. Hint hint, producers.
