Michael Shanks Expands on his (Limited) Stargate Universe Role

In a recent interview with The Official Stargate SG-1/Atlantis Magazine (via Airlock Alpha), Michael Shanks talked about his limited appearance in the upcoming pilot for the Sci Fi Channel’s new Stargate series, Universe. As reported previously, Shanks will have a very limited role in the show, or as he puts it, “I’m literally in there for two seconds to provide some brief information.”

He continues:

“I will say I got the script and there’s a good chance Daniel will be making a brief cameo along with some other people from the Stargate universe. That’s probably as much as I can say without getting my nuts chopped off. I’m literally in there for two seconds to provide some brief information. I’m not an integral part of it at all.”

Airlock Alpha also expands on the new show’s premise, which will find that a 10th Chevron has been uncovered, leading a team to go through the Stargate and land onboard an old Ancient ship that is on course for a 1,000 year mission. The show will star Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming Na, and a lot of new names, and is set to launch its mission October 2.

Time will tell if Universe will have the staying power of the previous Stargate shows, or if this new, radically different incarnation will send longtime fans running to their DVD box sets and ignore it altogether. At this point, reactions to the trailers and previews have been decidedly 50-50.

Personally I will not be watching this new series until & unless I get some positive feedback from people I know. Cancelling Atlantis because the performers would cost more than getting new performers in a new show shows a total lack of respect for the fan base.rnrnDave
