Let’s face it, NBC’s “Heroes” isn’t what it used to be, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for another show about a family of superheroes on TV. (Remember, “Heroes” basically had that — the Petrellis.) The latest to take a shot at the premise is ABC, who is gearing up “No Ordinary Family” which is set to star “The Shield’s” Michael Chiklis (left, also The Thing in the “Fantastic Four” movies) and former “Dexter” star Julie Benz (she was also in “Punisher War Zone” and “Rambo”).
THR lists the show as a “drama”, but the premise sure sounds pretty sci-fi/action-centric to us. Chiklis will play Jim, a once aspiring artist-turned-police artist who suddenly finds himself developing superpowers. Benz will play Jim’s wife, a gifted scientist who develops superspeed. Also in the cast is former “OC” star Autumn Reeser.
It’s not revealed how the family “develops” their superpowers, but I suspect it’s going to be one of those “foisted upon” deals where they didn’t want it and will probably spend a lot of the show winding about it. (Aka the Claire Bennet Syndrome, for you “Heroes” fans out there.) Hopefully they’ll be able to fight crime and supervillains in between all the whining.
“No Ordinary Family” is created by Greg Berlanti of “Everwood” fame, who has since branched out into superhero feature-film writing with “Green Lantern” and, rumor has it, the “Flash” movie for Warner Bros.
