Matt Reeves to Direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Nix October 2, 2012

The hunt to replace Rupert Wyatt as the director on Fox’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, the sequel to 2011′s surprise hit “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is over, with “Cloverfield” and “Let Me In” director Matt Reeves landing the cushy gig.

Wyatt was previously supposed to follow-up his reboot with the sequel, but decided to bail, citing a lack of preparation time to make a proper/quality sequel. So does that mean Reeves will have trouble making said proper/quality sequel? I suppose we shall see.

Last we visited the planet of the apes, it was still our planet, but the apes were getting ready for some payback. Fox has already scheduled the sequel for May 23, 2014, which is one of the reasons why Wyatt didn’t think he would have enough time for preparation, shooting, and post-production and still make the deadline.
