Lou Diamond Phillips and Alaina Huffman Join Stargate Universe

Coming on the heels of TV vet Ming-Na and newcomer Elyse Levesque joining the cast of the Sci Fi Channel’s growing Stargate: Universe show, comes news that Smallville vet Alaina Huffman (pictured, below) and Lou Diamond Phillips (right) will also be boarding the show. Plus, other details about the the cast convince me of my theory that the highly touted recruitment of Robert Carlyle was not for the male lead as previously reported.

More on the new characters from Zap2it:

On “SGU,” Phillips portrays career military man Col. Telford who is thrust into the leadership position under the unusual circumstances, while Ming-Na plays Camile Wray, the highest-ranking member of an international oversight committee that governs the Stargate program and who has a rather inflated opinion of her importance in relation to the other survivors.

Levesque stars as Chloe Armstrong, a U.S. Senator’s wild child who must prove her character once she’s trapped on the ship. [Alaina Huffman] is MSgt. Tamara Johansen, whose rather limited experience as an Air Force field medic is put to the test when faced with an overwhelming number of wounded.

And this about Carlyle’s character:

As reported earlier, Carlyle will play Dr. Nicholas Rush, whose brilliant scientific mind also harbors an ulterior motive.

Male leads on TV shows don’t have “ulterior motives”, especially from descriptions sent out to the media about their characters. Sounds more like Carlyle is being set up as the villain of the show. Maybe a Gaius Baltar type, even. I could be wrong, but that’s just what I’m sensing here.
