I wasn’t holding my breath for the arrival of the promised or hinted at Star Wars live action television series. The Lucas people are pretty good at keeping secrets and we are hopeful that the time being spent will make for a better product. I had assumed it was a few years away. This may not be the case.
As Maureen Ryan from the Chicago Tribune reports, we may be seeing real production get underway pretty soon.
… Lucas and executive producer Rick McCallum want all the scripts for the show’s first season to be completed before production begins.
“They are working with writers on scripts,” a Lucasfilm representative said in response to a query. “They won’t set a production date [for Season 1] until the scripts are done.”
But work on the unnamed show’s scripts appears to be at an advanced stage—which isn’t surprising, considering the writing of the live-action show began two years ago.
Sets and props for Star Wars movies of any kind take some serious time to build so I’m sure that the rumours of pre-production going on down in Australia are accurate. The series will be timed in the dark times between episodes 3 and 4, where the Rebels were on the run and Darth and the Emperor were hunting Jedi and kicking Wookies.
No casting news yet. The writing must be completed first:
“They met with people in several countries (including Australia) early on but they are not currently casting. They are not going to start casting until the scripts are completed,” according to the Lucasfilm rep.
Thanks to Scifiwire for the news. Will George come through this time?
