Lionsgate to Split Hunger Games: Mockingjay into Two Films
Nix July 11, 2012Ready for more “Hunger Games”? Of course you are. (Non-fans of the book/movie need not read on.) With “Catching Fire”, the sequel to “The Hunger Games” set for 2013, Lionsgate has already gone ahead and announced that the final book in the Suzanne Collins’ trilogy, “Mockingjay” will be split up into two films.
This isn’t a surprise, is it? I expected this to happen from the very beginning.
Two things: the book is pretty big, and could use a split. And second (and probably more importantly to the studio), two movies means two more chances to squeeze as much cash as they can from the franchise. This is a business, after all, don’t let anyone tell you no different.
So, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1″ will bow in November 21, 2014, followed one year later by “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2″ on November 20, 2015.
Got that? Good.
