Another day, another Hollywood studio snatches up another young adult sci-fi series with an eye towards turning it into a trilogy of movies. So what else is new?
The latest jackpot hopeful is Patrick Ness’ “Chaos Walking” trilogy of books, which Lionsgate have acquired with producer Doug Davison, the man responsible for “The Grudge” remake and “How to Train Your Dragon”.

The trilogy is set in a dystopian future against a backdrop where humans are colonizing a distant Earth-like planet. When a phenomenon called the Noise allows everyone’s thoughts to be heard, wiping away all privacy, the corrupt mayor of the colony makes a play to seize power and wipe out the indigenous alien race, with only a young man being the only one to stop him.
For once, I’d like to read a young adult sci-fi series that isn’t set in a “dystopian future”. Just saying.
Anyways, there are three books in the series, and box office willing, Lionsgate will turn all three of them into movies.
