Katee Sackhoff to have Recurring Role in New Bionic Woman

Sci-Fi TV News, The Bionic Woman TV Series — By Nix on July 18, 2007

Everyone who has seen promos for NBC’s upcoming remake of the “Bionic Woman” series knows that Katee Sackhoff plays a former Bionic Woman who has gone bad, and is now the main nemesis for young Michelle Ryan’s new Bionic Woman character. But how many episodes will Sackhoff be in? According to the Hollywood Reporter, it’s going to be quite a bit, because Sackhoff has just inked a deal with NBC to make her character a recurring character on the show, a stint made easier since both “Bionic Woman” and Sackhoff’s other show, “Battlestar Galactica” shoots up North in Canada.

The big news wasn’t even the contractual agreement, but why Sackhoff wasn’t showing up at the NBC press thing the networks hold to introduce their shows and the cast. Some were speculating that Sackhoff hadn’t shown up because she was boycotting the event and NBC for hiring Isaiah Washington onto the cast. As you may or may not know, Washington has been under fire recently for using a gay slur on a fellow castmember while he was at ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy”. Why would Sackhoff be mad, as the theory went? Well, Sackhoff’s character on BSG, Starbuck, has apparently become something of a lesbian icon. Go figure.

As it turned out, Sackhoff just hadn’t come to the event because she wasn’t signed yet, and by the time she had, well, it was too late to show up.

Glad to see Sackhoff working beyond “BSG”. That show is good and all, but “Bionic Woman”, shown on network TV, will get Katee a ton of exposure for future projects.

I have strong doubts about the potential of this show. I don’t think either of the ’70s “Bionic” shows worked well. But then again, “Battlestar Galactica” wasn’t much in the ’70s and look what they did with that today–one of the best sci-fi TV shows ever. Still, enough with faux sci-fi like “The Bionic Woman.” Let’s get back to hardcore space-based futuristic science fiction.
