Just to clarify the two levels a drama can be enjoyed, there is the story and then there is “what is happening to my favorite character today?” Pleasure, compassion, fear, etc… can arise faster and deeper when the episode concerns your favorite character. Hurrah for Julie benson!

To me Julie Benson is the cutest and sexiest (without seemingly aware of her above average curves) on SG.U. Each successful space drama has some element of sex appeal, hint of romance and/or sexual tension, as well as great story and superb special effects. Amanda Tapping’s Samantha was the ideal character of above average sex appeal, but the story emphasis wasn’t on her beauty. Thus her beauty was accepted as normal, but everyone once in a while, you remembered how pretty she was. Who doesn’t enjoy working with beautiful people even if there is no possibility of anything more than friendship? Some people are nice to be around. Whatever way the audience wants to imagine her is additional attraction for the show, whether it’s as a good looking friend, lover, or even daughter. This allowed SG to be enjoyed at times on two different levels, both pleasurable and frightening when Samantha’s life was threatened. Of course, the same appeal works for males.
Julie is an undiscovered ingredient in the success of SG.U. It may be hard to develop her into a major role as her current character seems not to be taken as seriously as others (like when her quip about widowers being great choices for mating is broadcast and she gets embarrassed). Perhaps her major character could be like Dax on Deep space nine- quirky but deadly serious at times.
The stories are excellent, the special effects great, the dark atmosphere of the ship lends a pale feeling to the stories. This seems to be the current trend- toward the darkness. Personally,according to my bio clock, the lighter the atmosphere the more I am awakened. The darkness doesn’t induce fear, but a sense of ending and going to sleep. I need special effects and sex appeal to get through the time while the drama is developing until the drama is so enthralling it stands by itself, in spite of the characters involved. I need Julie Benson!
