Joss Whedon Reuniting the Buffy Team for Dollhouse?

This should make a lot of Buffy fans happy: according to TV Guide, Joss Whedon, the creator of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show and Angel, has confirmed that Yes, he is looking at a couple of faces from Buffy to take over supporting casts in his new FOX sci-fi show Dollhouse. And this isn’t the only Buffy-Dollhouse connection, either, because the show’s star has already been cast. Eliza Dushku (pictured, below), who played the vampire slayer Faith on the show and then on Angel, is already scheduled to star in Dollhouse.

Whedon confirmed this unbelievably fraktacular turn of events moments before taking the stage at Paley Fest’s Buffy tribute last Thursday. “I’ve read a couple of people [from the Buffyverse],” he told me, “but I’m not going to say who.”

Although this would seem to contradict comments the Buffy master made to me last fall, in which he said that his “first instinct is to probably [cast] new people because I’m already reuniting with Eliza and I don’t want it to seem like a house party,” Whedon insists his position hasn’t changed.

“It’s not a hard and fast rule,” clarifies the auteur, who just completed penning Dollhouse’s one-hour premiere. “I just want to make sure I get the right people. And I don’t want to give the impression that it’s just me and my friends having a party. Some [Buffyverse alums] might work out fine. But I’m not going to just seek out people that I already know are great. That would be lazy.”

So what’s Dollhouse about? Here’s Variety’s take:

Produced by 20th Century Fox TV — the studio also behind “Buffy,” “Angel” and Whedon’s late, lamented “Firefly” — “Dollhouse” follows a top-secret world of people programmed with different personalities, abilities and memories depending on their mission.

After each assignment — which can be physical, romantic or even illegal — the characters have their memories wiped clean, and are sent back to a lab (dubbed the “Dollhouse”). Show centers on Dushku’s character, Echo, as she slowly begins to develop some self-awareness, which impacts her missions.

Very nice! An action series with Eliza Dushku is always welcome. She’s proven she can kick ass and look good doing it, so having her lead the show is a great decision by Whedon.

As for the rest of the Buffy cast, well, I was never all that big a fan of the show, although I did like Angel.
