Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Tetsuo in Akira Movies?

He is … Tetsuoooooo!!! Yesterday it was announced that Warner, working with Leonardo Dicaprio’s production company, would not just be making a live-action “Akira” movie, but they would be splitting it up into two films. (Which makes sense, actually, as one movie is just not enough to condense all the material of the original manga.) We also heard that Dicaprio may star in the film as Kaneda. So what about Testuo? How about Joseph Gordon-Levitt?

However, that’s not the only casting announcement we have to give today. Ain’t It Cool News claims that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Brick, The Lookout) has been cast as Tetsuo in the film as well. If there’s any young actor out there with the chops to pull off this role, it’s gotta be him. Needless to say, this just jumped up on my list of anticipated movies for next year.
If true, this will be Gordon-Levitt’s second mega movie, adding the live-action “G.I. Joe” to the list, and now “Akira”? Damn, who would have thought the kid from “Third Rock from the Sun” would outshine ALL of the cast years later?

In many ways Tetsuo has to be as twisted and demented as a Joker character or a serial killer. Tetsuo is also a teenaged little punk terrorist. He is a super villain with no archrivals but himself. The greatest enemy is the adversary we battle within ourselves.
Tetsuo wants respect. He wants to be treated as an equal and not as a child. They say power does not change you it just magnifies what you already really are. in the end you see Tetsuo for what he really is .. A big baby!
