It looks like John Carter’s Mars fighting days won’t be ready for the big screen by next year. Instead, Walt Disney has scheduled the Andrew Stanton-directed sci-fi actioner for June 8, 2012. The film will be released in Disney Digital 3D.
“John Carter of Mars”, based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs character, will star “Friday Night Lights’” Taylor Kitsch as the titular John Carter, a Civil War soldier who finds himself transported to the planet Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium (played by “Wolverine’s” Lynn Collins), who is in desperate need of a savior for her planet.
The film also co-stars Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Dominic West, and Ciarán Hinds.
