Not to be confused with “young adult Kirk”, who will be played by Chris Pine, word from Coming Soon is that J.J. Abrams has cast 11-year old Jimmy Bennett to play an even younger version of James T. Kirk in Trek 11. I guess this means we’ll be delving deeper into Kirk’s past than originally thought. What’s next, a fetus Kirk?

Director J.J. Abrams has cast 11-year-old actor (he’ll turn 12 on Feb. 9) Jimmy Bennett as a young James Kirk in Star Trek, opening in theaters on Christmas Day. Bennett has appeared in such films as Hostage, The Amityville Horror, Firewall, Poseidon and Evan Almighty. The older Kirk is played by Chris Pine in the film.

Bennett joins a cast that already includes Zoe Saldana, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana, Leonard Nimoy and Marlene Forte.
