According to director siblings Colin and Greg Strause, the ending of the upcoming “Aliens vs. Predator 2″ sets up a third installment in the sci-fi franchise. If it does happen, says the Strauses, the battle will be taken to the stars, which would be a good idea because, let’s face it, it’s about time the setting changed a little bit in this series.

More:

“What we’ve kind of told them is, I think, … to us, this is the end of the Earth story,” Colin Strause said in a group interview at the Santa Monica, Calif., headquarters of the Strauses’ visual-effects company, Hydralux, on Dec. 11. “The next one has got to be in space. You know, the way we kind of end this it’s like, ‘We’re kind of done here.’”

Where would that contemplated space-based adventure stand in the Alien timeline? “It would be nice [if] the next one, maybe, [took place just] before [the events in the original] Alien,” Colin said. “But definitely [it] kind of needs to be more of a space epic.”

Hey, I can dig it. Take it into outer space, baby, where it belongs anyway.

The first Aliens movie was definitely a classic. The second with Ripley was also excellent. With Arnold the first Predator was super.
When making these movies, one movie can not conflict with another. Also the Aliens have to maintain their appearance and reputation as the ultimate prey.
It is always challenging to come up with a good story line because both opponents are super big and super strong.
If it is done on a ship, as I understand, this is where the setting will be for the next one, getting the story line to go for three hours may indeed be challenging.
I hope they have extra bonus footage or extra scenes on DVD.

Everything in the story line seems fine to me. Let the writers and directors decide what to happen in the movie. It would be nice to see some of the Predator’s home planet but other then that they should just keep most of the story on Earth but hey I’m not the writer or the director so it’s really not up to any of us but them.
