Hey, Browncoats, Joss Whedon Still Hasn’t Given up on a Serenity Sequel
Yeah, but where will he find the time to make it happen?
Ol Joss currently has his hands full with those superheroes and whatnot at Marvel Studios, with his fingers in every pie as the new “architect” of the studio’s superhero universe. Where would he possibly find the time to do another “Serenity” movie?
Who knows, but let’s face it, if Whedon really wants to do a “Serenity 2″, I’m reasonably certain studios will be lining up to throw money at him to make it happen. The question, though, is time.
Talking to the Toronto Sun, Whedon made clear that he still hasn’t given up on a “Serenity” sequel yet, which should be very good news to all you Browncoats out there:
I’ll never really accept it. And I always, in the back of my head, think, ‘What if I could get the old gang back together?’ Well, you know, it’s something I would love to do. When I made Serenity, I said here’s one thing I’ll never do again — a movie based on something that some people know about and some people don’t, with tons of characters who all know each other and who you have to introduce. And then my second movie was The Avengers… Part of me is like, ‘God, it would be great when I finish Avengers 2 to do that.’
Yeah, but “The Avengers” is your ticket to “Serenity 2″, Joss. After that movie’s massive success (it’s the highest grossing movie of 2012), Whedon has his pick of projects.
It’s too bad he has already committed so much time and resources to Marvel’s future films and TV projects, though. You have to wonder what might have been if he hadn’t gone and done that…
