No one is pickier about their programming than Sci-Fi fans. We’re like piranhas on guppies when there is blood in the water. I for one, remain optimistic that SGU has some legs. People putting this show together and acting in it give a shit. I think it’s killing them that the show hasn’t had the reception they expected.
Now some of the criticism is warranted clearly. Nothing is really happening (yet). There’s not enough action and if you want to show sex on the show, stop fooling around. There’s too much effort forcing an adult quality to the show and not enough of that character coming naturally from good scripts. All that aside, this show has Robert Carlyle and Louis Ferreira in it. They kick ass. We are getting some episodes here and there that are really good. Once this breaking in period is over, great Sci-Fi is going to spring forth. So bite me.
Now then. In a couple of weeks we get to see a crew member, castaway or passenger shuffle off. It’s probably the bald guy with the, ah, issues. Who is the culprit? Is there a culprit? Colonel Young is implicated. As I said in my episode recap of last weeks show, it’s not his style. He’d just shoot you in the face at dinner if he thought it was necessary.
Plus, Dr. Rush sits in the chair. Well maybe not. He should have already. Enough with the slow burn. It’s fake drama people.

Well Im not going to bother watching any more episodes .
I really wanted to like this show after SG1 and SG Atlantis watched about 8 episodes and thats enough for me . This is a fake ass attempt at some soppy drama lost in space , with bad acting and bad writing . Hurry and fire these writers and directors so they can go back to work on OC or some simular soapy and leave the SCIFI to real directors and writers !!!
Hahaha, you guys are funny.. this show is awesome, I love how fresh and different it is than the previous shows. I have no doubt that as this show slowly develops over the next few seasons it will become as epic, if not more so than the others. (As horrible as Atlantis was, it only really spanned two different galaxies).
Look at all the galactical impending dooms that were covered in SG1 (Goa-uld -> Replicators -> Ori). As awesome as they were (ughh Wraith FTL) there’s going to be something even more amazing around the corner. With all the development (_real_ character development, not 2-dimensional cartoon-level characters for 8-year-olds) I cannot even begin to imagine the badassness.
“Develops over the next few seasons” OH GOD NO! MAKE IT STOP! MY EYES ARE BLEEDING! SHOOT ME WITH A ZAT GUN!
Please REAL character development ??? Unless your a 14 old teenager looking at seeing some soft porn and bad acting to boot there is no character development with Stargate Universe . From the episodes I have seen the characters are unlikable and provide no character development I mean do they expect us to start liking the characters after two whole seasons ???? With a show like this one which is going for less scifi feel with more adult content the character development would be the most important part to get right (EG: Battle Star Galactica did this right)and should come across in the first two episodes . The actors come across as unlikable and forgettable not to mention the bad acting . Plus the story’s are badly written re using old themes from various other shows and seasons with so many holes in the story’s it insults Stargate fans . This show will be lucky to see its second season I don’t know one person who likes this show . This was a quick attempt to grab ratings and the producers wh*ring the show out to make a quick buck .
This show is pants. I can’t imagine anyone will come back for the second half.
I so desperately wanted this show to get off the ground!! (Let alone into the deep space!) But it has hardly moved in what, like, 10 episodes?!? Nothing happened yet, and they call it “the end of the season”!! When is the next “season” starting? In the spring? In the fall? Gimme a break. Pfft. As little action as there has been, most people will probably forget about this series by the time its creators roll out the next 7 or so hours of this suspended animation. How very disappointing.
Ok, I agree with most of the negative comments made here but I do have some differences.
1st the acting is good but the soap opera writing needs to be tossed.
2nd I think this show could be saved for a single reason, SG fans want it to if only the producers would wake up and do something about the story arcs.
I’ll just bet they think that over time (and story arc’s to come) that they will win the SG fans back. If they are to keep the current soap opera style they are greatly mistaken.
The story points that MUST change are as follows.
1. WE NEED A HERO. No heroes here to root for. Who is the good guy here?
2. A soap opera plot line. Need I say more? What is this doing here?
3. Wife and boyfriend problems back on earth. These trips to Earth serve little purpose in the story that the audience in really interested in.
4. No control of their destiny (no pun intended) but really they can’t even steer the damn ship! Its nuts the way the writers think that we will support a plot line like this. I’ll grant that it could be a short story arc but it’s gone on way too long.
5. PLEASE FIND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE A CAMERA! This handy cam/dirty style of shooting does not give the show any gravitas. Someone sold the producers on this idea and they were robbed. Please hear the collective opinion of the viewers, WE CAN’T STAND IT!
I can see what is trying to be developed here. Create story arcs of charters that are unlikeable and have them redeem themselves over time to the audience. What they are missing is in any great story there has to be a hero and this one is missing it. The audience will ride on the back of a stories hero and stay with it because they care about him (or her). In this case all of the possible leaders to follow have such flaws that they become unlikeable so we end up not rooting for anyone. Thus we have no vested interest in who lives or dies.
The problem with this type of charter development is that it belongs in daytime TV on a soap opera not in a prime time science fiction program.
The 80/20 rule applies here. For sifi you should have 80% action and adventure and 20% charter conflict. In this case it seems reversed.
I would point out to the producers that the ratings will stay at the current level for only so long, why, because we (the SG fans) are only watching to see if the nose-dive course will be averted.
If we really think there is no hope for change we will start to bailout.
My advice is to hold the show until the summer for rework of the story, fire all the writing/directing staff and hire SG1, and SGA writers (that know how to build a sifi story), reboot this puppy with a new story line that is more reflective of the genre it belongs in.
I agree with most of this but really dont like the characters in the show , could just be because of the soap opera stories . But I dont think so I mean I dont have any interest in what the characters are doing or if they die or not . Plus the mixed civilians and army just crys out Battle star copy . Plus for some government secret they shore do bring a lot of civilians who dont need to be there as for example the daughter of the senator but its okay shes his assistant ? I mean if they are trying to create a more adult show but expect us to believe stuff like that and how the smartest person on the ship is a college drop out whos main area of study was computing .
“Thus we have no vested interest in who lives or dies.”
Bingo. Something has gone very wrong when your audience wants to see all your characters DIE.
“Time” was enjoyable for this reason alone.
I agree total I dont care if the whole crew die or not .
