Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” is a badass sounding movie — humans piloting robot mechas versus invading alien monsters. Basically, a Japanese animation come to life, all of it put on the big screen with a giant Hollywood studio budget. I like the sound of this!

The film has already cast it’s leading man in “Sons of Anarchy’s” Charlie Hunnam (below), and today it’s officially added “Thor’s” Idris Elba (above) to its cast.

The plot goes something like this:

The story sees powerful extraterrestrial aliens threaten the Earth’s existence, attacking cities and nations neighboring the Pacific Ocean. To meet the threat head-on, humanity develops giant robots to fight them off. The movie is influenced by mecha, the Japanese genre involving humans piloting robotic constructs.

If you’re not psyched for a movie with that kind of plot, you’re not a sci-fi fan.
