Gillian Anderson vs. the New Doctor Who?

Doctor Who TV Series, Sci-Fi TV News — By Nix on April 23, 2009 |

You may or may not have heard, but there is a new Doctor Who in town. Actor Matt Smith will be playing yet another version of the Time Lord, and one of his nemesis on the BBC show may be … Gillian Anderson? That’s according to the British The Telegraph newspaper, who says that the Doctor Who people are very keen to bring the former X-Files star onboard in a one-time appearance as The Rani, a renegade Time Lord. Er, Time Lady, I guess is the proper title.

Via The Telegraph:

An insider told the Daily Express newspaper: “Gillian obviously has a massive sci-fi following and it’s felt that it would be a major coup to have her appear in Doctor Who.

“The team behind the show are keen for the next Doctor to have lots of new enemies and Gillian would be a glamorous and impressive addition to the list.

“The Rani would be a perfect role for her as the character used to be regarded as one of the Doctor’s most deadly opponents.”

The American Gillian Anderson now resides permanently in the UK, and is a pretty regular face on the British stage. She’s kept doing TV and movies, and was recently in the UK thriller “Straightheads” and returned to the States to star in the ill-fated “X-Files: I Want to Believe” movie.

Below: I hope Scully doesn’t forget her, er, suit when she visits Doctor Who.
