FOX Pretty Much Confirms Fringe has been Renewed for Second Season

Fringe TV Series, Sci-Fi TV News — By Nix on February 24, 2009 |

Fans of J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi show Fringe should be happy at this news. No, not that Fringe will be moving its production from New York to Vancouver next year (although the show is supposedly based in Boston, natch), but that there will be a next year. Then again, considering the favorite time slot FOX put Fringe, was there really any doubt they had a soft spot for the show?

Here’s a press release Warner Bros. TV sent out regarding the movie (via):

“In this challenging and uncertain economic environment, we have made the very difficult decision to move… We did not come to this conclusion easily, but economic and practical imperatives dictated that this decision be made in a timely manner.”

There’s a whole thing about tax incentives driving the production away from New York and other politics of unimportance to us. What is important is the fact that Fringe has all but been guaranteed a renewal for season 2. After all, the production wouldn’t be spending all this money to make the move to Vancounver if there wasn’t still a production schedule (say, for next season) in place. Get it?

It’s too bad FOX decided to kill Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse before it even got a chance, but gave Fringe every chance in the book, including those ridiculously coveted timeslots. Oh well, at least we’ll still have one sci-fi show on TV next year from FOX.

I’m glad fringe will be back, I really love the show. I’m not sorry to see the end of Dollhouse; it kind of creeped me out. After all, the basic premise of the show was draining people’s brains and making high priced prostitutes. Then when they were done for the day, draining their brains and keeping them as morons. Nice.

Good. Fringe deserves to go on because it’s a cool show like the X-Files was in the 1990’s. Olivia Dunham is hot and Walter Bishop is funny.

Woo! :) Glad it’s got a second season and hopefully it’ll make it to British TV like the first season. :)

    Me:
Walter is the $hit. always says the most random stuff, but is “smartest” one on the show, and he likes to do acid haha.

olivia is alright, but astrid is way hotter. Thought i read something about her becomming a more important character and her not being who we thought??? seems to have been the same astrid to me… but damn she fine.

I am so sick of good shows lasting one season and then blip their gone. Thankfully Fringe will be coming back. I have found this to keep your interest with all the twists and turns the story makes and the continuing mystery of its cast. At least with a 2nd season it might turn out to me another Xfiles if given half the chance to know its characters, but not all at once.
Here's to the good old days when you could count on a series lasting more than one season.
