Flash Gordon Movie Gets Writers
Flash Gordon Movie, Sci-Fi Movie News — By Nix on August 11, 2008
Good news for those of you who still have a passion for all things Flash Gordon after the lackluster TV show by the Sci Fi Channel — Sony has hired two writers, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, to take a crack at the script. No stranger to fiction, the writing duo of Sazama and Sharpless are already in the process of writing vampire flick “Dracula Year Zero” for Universal and are also penning “300″ director Zack Snyder’s “Cobalt 60.” So yeah, these guys seem to know what they’re doing.
Via THR:
“Flash Gordon” centers on the titular young polo player who is kidnapped and taken to the distant planet Mongo, where he and companions Dale Arden and Hans Zarkov embark on a series of adventures fighting a ruler named Ming the Merciless.
Sony’s “Flash,” a live-action film, follows in a 75-year tradition across many media for what began life as Alex Raymond’s comic strip; the property was a movie serial in the 1930s, a Sam Jones-toplined feature in 1980 and a recent Sci Fi Channel series.
Breck Eisner (“Sahara”) is attached to direct the latest incarnation of the space hero with Neal Moritz producing. No actors have been attached. That usually comes after the script is written, and is deemed good enough to get actors involved.
