Maybe so, but this actually harkens back to the TOS style of ships. The only problem I had with Enterprise was that the shuttlepods, tricorders, and communicators didn't look like anything pre-tos. The Tricorders and communicators looked like advanced cell phones. I think their target audience is the old style trek fan, and if this is the shuttle, I'd say he's doing a good job.
