Hey look, kids, it’s Mulder and Scully — from “X-Files 2″! Yes, that’s right, the FBI paranormal busting duo are back together again in the upcoming “X-Files” sequel, and USA Today has new pictures of David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson together again. Plus, writer/director Chris Carter talks about dumping the alien mythology and going for a standalone movie.
More:
The film, which remains without a formal title, will dump the long-running “mythology” plotline — that aliens live among us and are part of a colonizing effort — that made it one of the most popular television shows in the late 1990s but ultimately drove away some viewers who found it too complex and ambiguous.
“We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads” when the show went off the air in 2002, says Chris Carter, creator of the series and director of the new movie. “We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one.”
You know, I think this is a great idea. I was a fan of “The X-Files” TV show from the very beginning (I mean, I was a fan from day one, episode one), but after a while even I got dizzy by the show’s seemingly neverending and increasingly convoluted UFO mythology. And besides, the best “X-Files” episodes have always been the standalone ones — the ones with Tooms, a guest-starring Bruce Campbell, etc.
