This looks interesting: a new fantasy-based TV series called Legend of the Seeker, a new syndicated TV show (that means it won’t be showing up on any one particular network or channel, but will depend on how many stations it can be pre-sold to) from Sam Raimi (the director of the “Spider-man” movies, and before that, the low-budget “Evil Dead” horror movies), and based on Terry Goodkind’s Wizard’s First Rule and The Sword of Truth novels. I’ve never even heard of it before, but promo images and a trailer for the show are on the net.

More about the show from IMDB.com (written by Terry Goodkind himself, apparently):

Millions of readers the world over have been held spellbound by this valiant tale vividly told. Now, enter Terry Goodkind’s world, the world of The Sword of Truth. In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher’s forest sanctuary seeking help…and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence. In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword-to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed…or that their time has run out. This is the beginning. One story. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.

The show stars Bridget Regan, Craig Horner, Jay Laga’aia, Craig Parker, and Bruce Spence. Sam Raimi is supposedly directing the first episode, but I haven’t heard anything about that, so who knows if that’s true or not.

I’ve never even heard of the books or the TV show, but Bridget Regan looks yummy, and I’m a sucker for a good ol fashion fantasy TV show. Some promos for the show that have surfaced online, including the trailer, below. The whole thing sure looks pretty expensive, though, so don’t expect the usual Sam Raimi TV show, ala Hercules or Xena. This thing looks like they put a lot of money into it.

Legend of the Seeker is scheduled to start running in syndication November 1st, 2008.

This looks to be a lot of fun, especially for fantasy and/or Terry Goodkind fans. The TV show will stay true to the characters and settings of the Sword of Truth novels, with some slight variations to make it fit into the TV series format.

Here are some new photos if anyone wants to take a peek:
