Stephen King himself mentioned earlier this month that his latest book, the gargantuan tome “Under the Dome” (the book clocks in at a respectable 1088 pages) will be headed to the small screen, and now we know a little bit more about the project: besides King, the project will, in all likelihood, headed to a cable network in limited series (aka mini-series) form courtesy of Steven Spielberg and his Dreamworks studio.
Variety reports that the TV division of Spielberg’s Dreamworks has optioned the King novel, and will be looking to create an “event series” based on it. This will be the second time King and Spielberg have worked together, counting the author’s “The Talisman”, which has yet to reach the screen, though IMDB.com has it listed as a possible mini-series in 2010.
King’s “Under the Dome” revolves around the drama that unfolds after an invisible force field suddenly and without warning descends on a small vacation town in Maine. Cut off from [...]

Brad Pitt producing a movie based on a videogame? Brad Pitt actually starring in said videogame turned movie? Hey, stranger things have happened. Like, say, a guy name Uwe Boll buying up and making movies based on videogames, and people actually allowing him to do so. It could be worst, I suppose, and Pitt would certainly look pretty good as a Rocketeer-ish badass fighting aliens.
The game in question is “Dark Void”, and Pitt’s Plan B has partnered up with Reliance BIG Entertainment to turn the property into a movie, with Pitt possibly stepping into the main character’s rocket pack as star. The third-person game centers on a a cargo pilot named Will who, after crashing in the infamous Bermuda Triangle, ends up in a parallel universe where a band of humans must fight an alien threat they had long been thought extinct. Will and the other humans are outmanned but have a number of weapons and powers to help them [...]

The boys at “South Park” always likes to toss in a big Hollywood movie parody or two in their episodes. Last week they took a swipe at James Cameron’s “Avatar”, and this week it’s Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic “2012″. In the episode, the boys go to the local Splash Town-ish water park, where Cartman gets incense at all the minorities there, while all the peeing in the water results in a massive tsunami of, well, pee destroying the park in a “2012″-ish sequence. It’s all very silly and completely over-the-top ridiculous — you know, like the actual movie.

In the not-too-distant future as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.

Let’s face it, with a name like Percy Jackson, he better be a very cool musician masquerading as a high school teenager, or the descendant of Greek Gods. In the case of our hero in “Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief”, it’s the latter. Man, he must get chicks. Even if they have snakes for hair. Check out the recently released International trailer for “Percy Jackson”, from director Chris Columbus, who knows a thing or two about launching big Hollywood movie franchises. No doubt everyone involved in “Percy Jackson” is hoping for a “Harry Potter” effect.
It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson’s Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they’re not happy: Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy’s mother. As Percy finds himself caught [...]

That’s a nifty little premise, but I never got around to watching it, and apparently neither did anyone else. I never knew when NBC was showing the show, so it just flew by its first season and was summarily canceled when not enough people tuned in. The Peacock network may not have had any faith in the show, but the Canadians think otherwise.
Variety reports that “The Listener” has received a 13-episode Season 2 order from Canada’s CTV network and its sister sci-fi/fantasy cable channel Space, while Fox International will handle the show’s international distribution.
Ratings for the show in the States were abysmal, but like all genre shows, I’m sure there are fans in the States hoping for a U.S. channel to pick up its second season. According to Shaftesbury chairman-CEO Christina Jennings, whose company produces “The Listener”, they’ll concentrate on producing [...]

Abrams and company have one man in mind when they think villain for the so far officially unannounced “Star Trek 2″. Rewinding just a bit here, much of the questions asked to J.J. during the Blu-Ray release party by inquisitive and intrepid reporters is whether or not the character of Khan will be rebooted for the next installment. I think it’s a pretty sure thing.
So ComingSoon has heard a juicy rumour that the guy that would be playing the great Khan would be none other than Nestor Carbonell, who plays the venerable but well preserved Richard Albert on LOST. This is the man that would get the part if filming were to start today.
Despite my love for Nestor, I’m thinking that a few other more known actors would be considered for the role before Nestor, just for crowd drawing purposes. This certain someone would really need to be able to chew some [...]

A live-action movie, at that. USAToday currently has a long article on the birth and status of “Alien Legion” the comic book, and towards the end they mention that a script for the movie is currently in the works by writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, the duo behind “Wanted” and “3:10 to Yuma”.
During my comic book days, I picked up an “Alien Legion” issue or two, but to be honest, I don’t really know all that much about it. Here’s more:
Launched in 1984 as the pet project of series creator Carl Potts, Alien Legion has developed a cult following over the years. The series redefined the military science-fiction genre, telling tales of war and space exploration through the eyes of a rough-and-tumble intergalactic foreign legion.
Seems that an “Avatar” trailer is on my television every time I look up from my obsession with Stephen King’s “Under The Dome”. Despite seeing these trailers a bizillion times it still seems like I see something new in them every time, so piled full of vision is James Cameron’s Magnum Opus. Of particular interest is the female Na’ Vi, Netytiri. I’m crushing. Here’s a new pic from USA Today of her blue kitty fineness. Go buy your IMAX tickets now because “Avatar” hits theatres Dec 18th.

Ever since it was announced that “Lost” was going to the great DVR in the sky, viewers have been seeking a successor to the science fiction/mystery/drama/paranormal series. So far, “V”, “Flash Forward”, and thanks to the bizarre antics of judge Bruno Tonioli, “Dancing With The Stars”, have all arrived to try to give viewers their weekly fix of the strange and unexplainable. Now AMC throws their hat in the ring, with a brooding re-imagining of “The Prisoner”, and it just may be one of the season’s best yet.
“The Prisoner” opens with a man waking up in a mountainous desert area. He can’t remember who he is, where he is, or how he got there. In his disorientation, he sees an elderly man running from guards. Before dying, the old man gasps a message, to tell 554 he found a way out. Out of where? Who is 554? The man soon finds out, when he awakes in a hospital and [...]

To be honest with you, I don’t see how Disney wouldn’t make a sequel to “Race to Witch Mountain”, and according to one of the film’s stars, the original did leave room for more stories. Released earlier this year, the movie earned $67 million at the domestic box office, and went on to make $106 million worldwide. That sounds like a recipe for sequels to me. While doing the press junket for his animated sci-fi comedy “Planet 51″, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said as much.
He told Collider:
I’m not quite too sure about a Witch Mountain sequel. Great success breeds a lot of things, including sequels. The storyline was set up for a sequel, so we’ll see. I’m not ruling it out. I just can’t speak to it because I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to any of the guys up at Disney about it.
From there, The Rock automatically switched over to promoting his other kid-friendly comedy “Tooth Fairy” like the [...]

We’re finally going to get to see “The Road”, the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s brilliant and honest story of a man trying to keep his son alive and the hope his son represents, in a world that has suffered a horrific cataclysm. Viggo Mortensen is the man for this role. He was born to it. Here’s a couple of new clips showing how life was before for Viggo and his family and also some evidence of the measure of the father’s strength. I’ve also added an interview with Viggo as he describes his feelings about the book and the filming of the movie. “The Road” is in theatres Nov 25th. Thanks io9 for spotting these.

It’s a bright new day on “V” tomorrow night as the Visitor lizards finally get legal and it looks like we have some continuing lizard human fraternization. It can’t end well. Somebody needs to explain away why the Visitors look exactly like humans despite having evolved on a completely different planet trillions of miles away. I know, I know, I’m being picky. Heres nine new clips that will most likely fill you in completely on what will be going on tomorrow night over on ABC.

Since most of your Sci-Fi movie and television news makers are busy sacrificing virgins or puppies or practicing whatever religion allows them the supernatural powers to get rich and famous, mostly producing crap, Sunday can be a desert planet of news, barren and lifeless.
But all is not lost. Remember, it’s called Science-Fiction for a reason. And so, since our readers have neural networks with a few more connections than are necessarily needed for prepping for Steelers-Bengals or finally putting that load of laundry in the dryer that you put in the washing machine on Tuesday, I bring you your Sunday Sci-Fi Science Fix, a column chocked full of nerd with hopefully cinematic themes of aliens, exploration or mass destruction.
Exoplanetary Hunters Find Easy Way To Seek Out Alien Worlds
Up until now, astronomers have been using the (maybe) slightly uncertain technique of detecting planets around other stars by measuring a planets mass effect on the movement of the parent star. Since stars [...]
