Last year, during filming of “TRON: Legacy”, the lucky fellas over at Scifiwire got a chance to sit down with Jeff Bridges to question him on the part he is to play in the digital inner bits of the latest TRON extravaganza. Many questions were asked, but Jeff was cagey and lawyered up frequently. Still, some interesting information was extracted.
A taste:
You said once the thing you remember most about making the first one was this really uncomfortable dance belt [that he wore under his white leotard], so is the same thing happening in this one?
Bridges: No dance belt, thank God. Here we have these wonderful suits that light up, so they have their own kind of problems, you know, heating up and stuff like that, but the suits are quite a bit different. … I don’t know all the technical stuff, but these suits are amazing. You know, I was talking about the lighting being so low that they’re using. [...]

The original “The Thing”, starring absolute bad-ass Kurt Russell, was one of my favorite movies of all time. We had paranoia inducing Antarctic isolation, people teetering on the verge of insanity, big bushy beards and that was before the shape changing, human hunting, dog imitating creature from the frozen flying saucer arrived.
Universal is about to let loose the filming of the prequel to “The Thing”, capturing the horrors experienced by those crazy Norwegians that discovered, or set free, the first Thing. This effort is going for an authentic feel, filming the Norwegians speaking in Norwegian, with English subtitles of course. This is interesting. I’m kind of on the fence.
First a word on the look and feel according to Marc Abraham, producer. (via The L.A. Times)
That’s the story we tell in this film,” says Marc Abraham, who is producing the movie with his Strike Entertainment partner Eric Newman. “We go back to that original Norwegian camp and try to figure out what happened. It’s [...]

I’m not really sure who Captain Future is really. He’s apparently a big whig with the kids over in the U.K. and Europe, or was anyway. I am however a big fan of Christian Alvart after his criminally under appreciated sci-fi horror “Pandorum”, which was a boat load of snappy sci-fi in my humble opinion.
Fresh off the semi critical if not financial success of “Pandorum”, Christian has been funded to develop “Captain Future” and bring it to us worldwide in a family friendly, happy sci-fi way. Thanks to Quiet Earth for the scoop.
Christian on the Captain:
I was a huge CAPTAIN FUTURE fan growing up. In elementary school I spent my whole allowance on the toys and the sticker collection which were quite a big deal in Germany. There was the popular Anime show in the 80’s of course, but I also read all the original novels by Science Fiction pioneer Edmond Hamilton and loved them. It [...]

Look, folks, it’s not that I like to bash Robert Rodriguez, it’s just that, well, it’s fun to remind people that Rodriguez is one of those very enthusiastic kids who declares he’s going to do this and that, but ends up not doing either this or that. It’s that bundle of enthusiasm that pushed him to make his “El Mariachi”, the famous “shot for $7,000 film” that went on to make millions and made Rodriguez a hero to garage filmmakers everywhere. Unfortunately for Rodriguez, he fails to realize that he’s no longer a garage filmmaker, and when he goes on websites and announces that he’ll make this movie and that, people tend to, you know, believe him.
One of the films he’s been talking up is a live-action adaptation of “The Jetsons”. But like so many Rodriguez films in the past few years, that’s now gone by the wayside. The Playlist quotes Rodriguez as saying as much:

We’ve probably all seen the “Predators” sneak footage from SXSW, way down Austin, Texas way. I’m hopeful. It looks promising. What is also promising is the quality of the acting talent Robert Rodriquez has assembled for director Nimrod Antel’s reboot of the original Arnold Schwarzenegger tale of one beefy man, alone in a leafy hell hole save for a beady eyed, quad tusked death machine.
Adrien Brody was a bit of a surprise for the reboot. To this point he’s displayed some serious chops but his roles haven’t been the most physical. Robert Rodriquez saw the Michael Keaton in the eyes of this batman and Adrien is obviously hungry to demonstrate that he’s up to the job.
Io9 tracked Adrien down at the sneak screening in Austin and got his take on things.
A highlight:
I know I’m not the obvious choice, i get that. I probably wouldn’t have even been on the studio’s list, even near the bottom. You can ask Robert, I’m [...]

At some point in the recent past we reported that Angelina Jolie was maybe, probably, going to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity”, a tale about a couple of astronauts tinkering around outside of a “remote” space station when it gets hit with space junk. To further complicate the matter it seems that now Jolie is out and on to other things. I had feverish visions of Jolie in a skin tight spacesuit but alas, it’s not to be.
Instead we have word (from Deadline New York) that Robert Downey Jr. will also, maybe, probably, be replacing Jolie, right before he films another Sherlock Holmes epic for Guy Ritchie. Alfonso Cuaron (“Children Of Men”) is filming in London in the summer and that just fits perfectly with the Sherlock filming, going principal in the fall. As far as I’m concerned, Robert can star in everything. I never get tired of him.

Itching for some “Predators” action about now? You’re in luck, because the sneak peek trailer that we’ve been promised has been posted over at the film’s official site, complete with an introduction by the film’s producer, Robert Rodriguez. Personally I would have liked to just see the trailer without the blabbing, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. Check it out below.
From the looks of it, Laurence Fishburne is apparently playing the character who has been surviving on the Predators home planet for a while now, that I know a lot of people were hoping would be played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sorry, guys, but hey, at least Adrien Brody doesn’t look nearly as out of place as I thought he would, right?
Starring Topher Grace, Adrien Brody	, Danny Trejo, Laurence Fishburne, Alice Braga, Derek Mears, Brian Steele, Walton Goggins, Carey Jones, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov, Louis Ozawa Changchien, and directed by Nimród Antal. Robert Rodriguez produces.

New episodes start April 2nd. Thanks Collider.

He’s really into “Blade Runner” and especially, really into Harrison Ford’s Blade Runner gun, the finest weapon outside of the light saber in movie history. The difference between Adam and I is he’s got talent and I’m a basement-less and garage-free lame condo dweller with almost no tools. It’s a sad story.

Since it first started screening at genre festivals a while back, “Splice” has been garnering rabid word of mouth and a reputation for being one of the hottest science fiction/horror tickets for some time. Having gone down particularly well at prestigious gatherings such as Sundance and Stiges, the film has now been picked up for wider distribution, with a summer release slot having apparently been staked out, surely a great show of confidence in its quality.
The film was directed by Vincenzo Natali, still probably best known for his 1997 brain teaser “Cube”, and boasts a vaguely top drawer cast headlined by Adrien Brody, presumably still trying to live down his bizarre performance in Argento’s “Giallo”, and Sarah Polley. Add to this a potentially fascinating and controversial premise involving DNA tomfoolery and some superb special effects, and “Splice” certainly seems to tick all the right boxes. Sadly, it also ticks all the wrong boxes, and despite a few flashes of [...]

“Monsters” is a potentially nifty looking Sci-Fi treat from former visual effects guy Gareth Edwards about an alien infestation in the area of Mexico. A journalist escorts some American tourists through the contaminated zone and together they get a Darwin award. Or so I’m guessing. I’ve got a video taste here for you and it looks very cool and creepy. Creepy Sci-Fi rules. Thanks Twitch for the snip. Monsters will be showcased at the SXSW film fest with a release date to be determined soon.

I’ve got some little widgets of news for your reading pleasure today. First of all, Alice Braga dishes some on the look of the mighty Predators in the Robert Rodriquez produced and Nimrod Antel directed reboot of same, due out this summer.
On her character and the snaggletoothed enemy:
[T]he predators, fans, they look really cool! I was really scared. The guys that play them, they’re really tall,” she explained adding a bit about her character. “She’s a girl from special forces. She’s a tough cookie. She’s a sniper. She jumps into the story and is trying to run for her life, which is classic “Predator” films.“
We are looking forward to how Adrien Brody manages to get into character as a he-man merc type for his lead role in “Predators”. For my part, the dude has an academy award for best actor. If he bulks up a bit he’s going to be great. This whole thing reminds [...]

Check out seven smashing clips and a new red band trailer from Jude Law’s sci-fi actioner “Repo Men”, based on the novel “The Repossession Mambo” by Eric Garcia.
In the future humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called “The Union”. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don’t pay your bill, “The Union” sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property… with no concern for your comfort or survival. Former soldier Remy is one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company’s top-of-the-line heart-replacement… as well as a hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart’s no longer in the job. When he can’t make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy’s former partner [...]

Bryan Cranston plays a father and chemistry teacher that turns to cooking meth to support his family when he receives what he thinks is a terminal cancer diagnosis in AMC’s Breaking Bad, a show that continues to be just about the best thing on television. Are you watching it? Good.
Bryan is playing a civil war Northern Colonel in Andrew Stanton’s (All things Pixar) “John Carter Of Mars”. He’s excited. We’re excited for him. Bryan sat down with the Collider kids to give up some story on at least his particular part in the proceedings.
Collider: You’re going to be in Andrew Stanton’s John Carter of Mars.
Bryan Cranston: Yeah, I am. We already started shooting that. I shot for a week in London a couple weeks ago.
Can you talk about who you play in the film and are you excited to be in this huge movie?
Cranston: Very excited. I liked the script first and foremost. That’s why I [...]

So apparently there was some kind of big awards show or some such in Hollywood over the weekend. You may or may not have heard something about it. In any case, during one of those shindigs that only celebrities are invited to, the original Barbarella herself, Jane Fonda finally met the dishy Kate Bosworth, and made this proclamation:
“I want her to do the ‘Barbarella’ sequel!”
Obviously no one cares what Jane Fonda wants, and I doubt if this will make any difference about who lands the Barbarella lead, if one even gets made, which at this point is not a sure thing.
But having that, it does give me a perfect excuse to post this picture of Kate Bosworth:

“Men In Black 1″ and 2 made a whack ton of money. While the sequel was not in the league of the first installment, it still dropped 440 million into the laps of our fine feathered friends at Columbia Pictures. MIB2 came out in 2002, almost 10 years ago. Has Columbia stopped enjoying money?
It’s being reported (via Beyond Disgusting) that “industry sources” are saying that MIB3 is just about ready to roll. The script is done, written by Etan Cohen (“Tropic Thunder”, “Igor”, “Idiocracy”) and it’s looking like Josh Brolin (“No Country For Old Men”) and maybe even Sasha Baron Cohen are in talks to star. Also mentioned in the mix is Jemaine Clement (The Flight of the Conchords). I like that cast if it’s true. We’ll keep you up to date.
