I’ll admit it, I haven’t a clue how to spell (without copy/pasting) or pronouncing “Fame” director Kevin Tancharoen’s name, so I’m just not going to try it. Anyways, the big news isn’t “Fame”, but his next movie, which he says will be called “Arcana”, which he describes as a cross between “Blade Runner” and “300″.
Tancharoen tells Moviehole:
“’Arcana’ is a unique blend of the graphic-novel backdrop – like Blade Runner – and shot like 300, and has a little bit of Warriors mixed in there, with a little bit of martial arts, so it’s got a lot of crazy elements in there. It’s going to be really cool. We’re writing it right now actually – a guy named John Ridley is writing it; I’m very happy we got him.”
According to Tancharoen (top left, doing the directing thing), fans shouldn’t be so surprised. Although he’s known as a dancing choreographer and the director of the upcoming musical remake of “Fame”, he’s actually “a comic and video-game nerd who got into dancing somehow”. Which is exactly how I explained my meth habit to my parents, but I digress.
“Arcana” is currently being written, and will be produced by Brett Ratner (“X-Men: The Last Stand”) and be distributed through Universal. Of course, Tancharoen’s ability to front a big-budget sci-fi film will depend a lot on how “Fame” performs.
