Heat Vision is reporting that “Crazies” director Breck Eisner has been hired to finally be the guy that brings Snake Plissken, played originally by Kurt Russell, back to a theatre near you.
For those of you not as moldy and oldy as myself, the original “Escape From New York” was set in the far future of 1997 where Manhattan island was established as a penal colony for the unrepentant and unrehabilitated . When the President Of The U.S. crashes into the place and is captured by the baddest gang leader, Snake is released from prison to break in and retrieve the commander in chief.
The new version is being assembled by New Line and will tell some Snake origin tale, followed by a probably much more violent rebooted story. Maybe the President will be a girl or something. Gerard Butler was originally thought to be the new Snake, but he’s moved on. However, you never know. Gerard needs a hit and he’s got some Russell in him. We’ll probably see some casting news soon. I think it’s a story worth a reboot.
