Emmerich’s Apocalyptic 2012 Gets Cusack, Ejiofor

Director Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic movie “2012″ has found its leading man in John Cusack (pictured, left), who will be headlining the film about an impending disaster in the year 2012 as foretold by the Mayan calender. Also joining Cusack’s quest to, one presumes, stop the impending disaster is “Redbelt” star and uber “Serenity” galactic badass Chiwetel Ejiofor (pictured, below).

Variety has more about the plot:

Story kicks off with a global cataclysm, which brings an end to the world as we know it, and chronicles the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Well, um, I guess that means Cusack doesn’t save us after all. It appears that Emmerich isn’t fooling around: “2012″ WILL be about the end of the world.

Emmerich and Harald Kloser wrote the script, and Emmerich is scheduled to start shooting July.
