DVR Numbers for Dollhouse and TSCC Better than Expected

Could DVR actually save both Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles? No idea, but according to THR’s Live Feed blog, the DVR numbers (something called “time shifted” viewing, whatever the hell that means) are actually better than expected, giving both shows better ratings than some of its competitors in the Friday night timeslot.

Okay, I have no idea what I just wrote above. Here’s the Live Feed with the explanation:

According to just-released Live+7 DVR data, the “Dollhouse” premiere episode’s rating increased 30% once time-shifted viewing from later in the week was added in. “Dollhouse” went from a 2.0 adult demo number to a 2.6.

“Dollhouse” lead-in “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” gained even more — 36%.

By comparison, Friday’s most-popular show “Ghost Whisperer” gained 21%, “Flashpoint” climbed 11% and “Numbers” was up 14%.

The “Terminator” and “Dollhouse” gains are considered very high increases for time-shifted viewing, even for a Friday night.

Yeah, I still have no idea what this means, only that this seems to be positive news for both shows. I’m not going to go out on a limb and say that FOX will look at the numbers and decide to actually promote both shows again, but who knows. I’ve given up trying to predict FOX’s insane behavior.

Yeah any way you look at this, it’s at least good news. Who knows if it will be enough to save the show. Let’s hope so…

I think time-shifted viewing is basically people that record (via PVR?) or view the episodes from a different timezone (i.e. west cost viewing east cost airing)? Anyway, regardless, this is good news. I enjoy Dollhouse and seeing Eliza again on tv.
