Duncan Jones’ Mute Script Details

Share/Bookmark

duncan-jones-mute-1Duncan Jones, the director and co-writer of this years stupendous “Moon” was supposed to be gnawing away feverishly on the film “Mute” about a deaf bartender in Berlin trying to find his missing girlfriend.

However, Duncan has instead been persuaded to work on the film “Source Code” with Jake Gyllenhaal, about a guy repeatedly sent back in time 17 minutes before a terrorist explosion on a train to puzzle out what happened in order to prevent it from happening again.

So we won’t be seeing “Mute” for a few years. According to the fine fellows at ScriptShadow, it’ll be worth the wait. They have the whole shebang apparently, ready for your e-reader of choice.

Here’s a part of the larger synopsis:

“Mute” centers on a brutish 40 year old man named Leo, who lost his ability to speak in a childhood boating accident. The cautious and perceptive Leo lives in Germany now, where he’s fallen in love with a striking Afghan woman named Naadirah. The two are inseparable, both working as waiters at a sketchy local club.

In another part of town, an obnoxious American named Cactus Bill is looking to acquire a fake pair of passports for his foreign wife and daughter so he can finally go home to the United States. Although it was never quite clear to me how Bill got stuck in Germany, he seems hell-bent on getting out. His journey is complicated, however, by the debt he owes Germany’s large Russian crime syndicate, as well as the suspicious behavior of his closest confidant, who may or may not be a pedophile targeting Bill’s daugther.

It gets even more interesting from there. I think I’ll give it a look. The script for “Source Code” is also on ScriptShadow. Scripts can be interesting reads. Picking a favorite movie (like Blade Runner) and then reading the script can be an eye opening and educational experience. Thanks i09 for the scoop.
