The push is on to promote Niell Blomkamp’s District 9, the story of aliens that come to visit and the nasty reception they receive. I think the film is going to be great Sci-Fi but it seems like the anti-apartheid lesson it illustrates seems a bit dated. I can’t imagine any real aliens being treated like this. Yes I know they are a metaphor for humans. I get it. That they land in South Africa and are put into camps just seems a little too obvious. Still, it has Peter Jackson producing and features giant robots, angry aliens and human-alien hybrids so it sounds like fun.
