Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing Neill Blomkamp’s breakthrough hit “District 9″ on standard DVD and Blu-ray December 22 2009 (just in time for the sci-fi fan in your household, natch). Starring Sharlto Copley and produced by Peter Jackson of “Lord of the Rings” fame, the “Alien Nation”-esque movie took the box office by storm when it was released, and garnered mostly positive critical reviews, which translated into excellent box office recripts, making it one of the few sci-fi moves released in 2009 that can make that boast. If ever there was a chance to inspire young filmmakers this is it.
I agree, it was a neat little movie and it would’ve been a great fit in the special features section. It can readily be seen on YouTube, though.
