District 9 Director Ready for a Sequel
District 9 (2009) Movie, District 9 Sequel, Sci-Fi TV News — By Nix on August 17, 2009
This is what happens when a movie comes out of nowhere and scores big, as director Neill Blomkamp’s film “District 9″ has done. The film’s got people interested in sci-fi again (always a good thing), and that excitement has translated into box office success to the tune of a $37 million dollar opening weekend. So can a sequel be far behind?
According to everyone involved, there doesn’t seem to be any aversion to returning to the world of “District 9″. Director Neill Blomkamp said this to EW about a possible sequel:
”I would do anything to go back to the world of District 9 again,” he says. ”Or District 10.”
Well, Neill, who is stopping you? Peter Jackson has a full plate, but he was always just a producer on the film, and it’s always been Blomkamp’s vision from day one. And with Blomkamp clearly up for a sequel, I don’t see where one wouldn’t be forthcoming, and soon.
