The thing about Hollywood is, they’re always talking up sequels (or since the coming of the “Lord of the Rings” and “Matrix” movies, trilogies) before a movie is released. When it comes to genre movies, the talk gets revved up pretty high, and honesty, you really can’t take it with any seriousness because until the film’s box office numbers come in, it’s all talk.
Which means studios rarely hire writers to pen possible sequels even before the first movie is released. Well according to THR, Disney has done just that, hiring “Lost” guys Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to already start working on possible sequels to Joseph Kosinky’s “Legacy” movie, which is itself a sequel to the 1982 film.
Plot details for the sequels (yes, sequels, as in more than one — Disney is now talking up a trilogy) are being kept under wraps, but THR speculates the sequels could focus on spinoff characters introduced in “Legacy” or continue to follow new characters using the world of “Tron” as its setting.
Either way, if you love your glowing neon motorcycle-ridin’ adventures, Disney is determined to give you more. That is, if “Legacy” is a hit. If it’s not? All bets are off.
“Tron: Legacy” lightcycles its way into theaters December 17, 2010. Here’s the official “Legacy” trailer in case you missed it.
