I saw this movie as a kid, it was so long there was an intermission due to the need to change reels!

It was by far the BEST movie of my childhood, and Frank Herbert is a GENIUS! I read the whole Dune series, and for the most part they were all incredible stories. I have always thought that Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune were books that needed movie counterparts, so hopefully that is something that may evolve out of this remake.

The acting was superb, and with a list (mostly) of people you had never heard of at the time, it was impressive how well they pulled it off. Even Billy Idol played an acceptable part!

I even wanted to name my daughter Chani, but the wife vetoed that....surprise!

The SciFi channel remake wasn't bad either, obviously not as extravagant, but with the progress in CGI it was able to pull off some things that even the original made look a bit hoaky.

I remember it was the "most expensive science fiction film of all time..." for quite a while. Not sure what replaced it on that list, but it was a believable characteristic at the time!

Anxiously awaiting this remake, and dare I say it....Red Dawn remake will find me in the theater seats as well!

Sweet!

smooter
