David Goyer Leaves Flash Forward

David Goyer, showrunner and co-creator of ABC’s Flash Forward has bailed to pursue his motion picture career, according to the Hollywood Reporter. As you may remember, David took over for Mark Guggenheim, who also stepped away.

I’m not calling Flash Forward dead in the water but it’s starting to lose that new car smell. The execs obviously saw Flash Forward as the replacement for Lost which is finishing this year. Let’s face it though. There’s a wide gap between the shows, both in acting quality and in writing. The concept of Flash is cool, just about everyone on Earth takes a header and stays unconscious for a couple of minutes. What dark scheme is behind this surrender to gravities embrace? I’m not sure I care and according to the ratings, which are in free fall, the number of you out there that care is rapidly diminishing. Flash Forward returns to television, hopefully jazzed up, on March 18th.

Here’s David Goyer’s goodbye speech. I might tune in to see if the show has improved. It does have Sulu and Charlie in it. I’ll hold out on utter abandonment for the sake of those two Sci-Fi stalwarts.

“As my feature projects have started ramping up again, I felt I was being pulled in too many directions. I’m proud of the show and excited about the relaunch. It’s in great hands.”
