David Duchovny Keen on Another X-Files Movie
Sci-Fi Movie News, X-Files 3 Movie — By Nix on October 22, 2009
Despite poor box office and generally “meh” critical reviews and mostly indifferent moviegoer word of mouth, David Duchovny insists there is still an audience for another “X-Files” movie. The audience is out there, if you will. Ahem.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Duchovny breaks down his current thought process on another potential “X-Files” movie:
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
He defends last year’s widely panned I Want to Believe, as well as the polarizing last few seasons of the television run:
“I was happy with it… I have nothing but respect for [X-Files creator] Chris Carter and the writing staff.”
Gillian Anderson has also expressed a desire to return to the franchise.
That makes two people who want a third “X-Files” movie. Or three, if you count Chris Carter.

I simply find it hard to believe that Mr. Duchovny was happy with 'XFiles-I Want to Believe'. It was simply awful. I still want my money back. The worst of the TV episodes were superior to that movie and shorter. Thank goodness.
I found the film watchable. It should not have been released during the summer. If Chris Carter makes three people who want a third movie, make me number four
I loved the film, along with a lot of other X Philes that I know! We are waiting with baited breath for an X Files 3 movie announcement and can’t wait for it to happen!!
I also loved the film and am waiting for the next one. How can you go wrong? David and Gillian have such a perfect relationship that shows through in their acting. Any more films will be accepted with open arms as far as I am concerned.
The first 1/3rd of the movie held promise, but it dropped off precipitously ( I was shocked at how precipitously) after the scene where they find some dead body out on wintry road in broad daylight…. after that, it was worse piece of dribble that one could have never wished on the X-files…. if Duchnovy is serious about not disliking the 2nd film, and refuses to be honest with himself and the fans….than he need to reanalyze why he would do another one…. I agree with Avril, it was worse than worse of the T.V. shows …
Wnat to say though, I think the movie was affected considerably by impending writers strike at time and they had to finish it lest it not be made at all….. that was a logical explanation to me…..
I do hope for a return to form for another go around , go team….Carter and Spotnits…do your thing well this time boys, like we know your capable of…… and add some nice heaping doses of prime suspense and creeps sprinkled throughout , that is must…… that was what was so pitiful about 2nd movied, the ending was totally lacking in thrills or suspense ,,, yuck ,, hate to even remember it….
I loved “I Want To Believe”, it was slower than the first film but more focused on human drama than the mad scientist aspect. The film struck me as a bridge between the final episode and the 3rd movie. “Fight the Future” was made in 1998, at the serie’s peak. It featured the pair at the top of their game, but when the series ended Mulder was disillusioned branded a criminal. It left them on the run and uncertain about the future.
“I Want To Believe” picked up on that, and brought Mulder out of seclusion and back in the game. By the end of the film, Mulder and Scully were back. The stage was set for the pair to handle the alien colonization in 2012. I’d love a third film, to round out the trilogy and bring the “X-Files” mythology full circle.
