D.J. Caruso to Direct the Michael Bay-Produced I am Number Four

Number Four has gotten himself a director, and it’s D.J. Caruso, the man behind “Disturbia” and “Eagle Eye”, both starring Shia LaBeouf, which makes you wonder if Dreamworks is looking at nabbing LaBeouf for the starring role as well. Just wondering. The movie will be based on the young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Joby Hughes, and is the first installment in a six-novel series. Michael Bay has been attached to the film from the very beginning, and for a time it seemed like he might also direct. With “Transformers 3″ gearing up, that apparently proved impossible, and so the directing duties have now gone to Caruso.

“Four” revolves around a group of nine aliens who escaped their home planet just before it was annihilated by a rival species. Hiding out on Earth, the title character disguises himself as a human high schooler, only to discover he is being hunted still by his planet’s enemy.

The movie adaptation of the as-yet-unpublished novel will be written by genre vets Al Gough and Miles Millar, the boys behind the “Smallville” TV show and a number of other genre projects, including the most recent “Mummy” movie and before that, “Spider-Man 2″.

Although he’s let go of the explosive reins, Michael Bay will still remain onboard to produce for Dreamworks.

Hey look, guys, I can see Canada from here, and it's glorious!
