Curtis Hanson to Direct Sci-Fi Actioner Gemini
Gemini (2010) Movie, Sci-Fi Movie News — By Nix on February 13, 2009
I’ve been hearing about the sci-fi movie “Gemini” for a few years now, and given the premise, every now and then you’ll hear the name of an aging action star connected to the leading role, everyone from Harrison Ford to Sylvester Stallone to Bruce Willis. It looks like the film is now finally moving forward, with Touchstone Pictures in negotiations with “L.A. Confidential” director Curtis Hanson to take over the reigns of the picture.
THR reports:
David Benioff (”The Kite Runner”) wrote the script, about a brilliant, aging assassin trying to leave the game whose employers dispatch a clone of his younger self to take him out. The concept allows for some techno-wizardry whereby an older actor with a long career would be cast, and his younger likeness would be digitally grafted onto a stuntman’s body. A similar trick was employed with Jet Li in “The One,” though not with the generational twist.
The hook, of course, is to get one of Hollywood’s aging action stars to take the lead role, and then do the digital stuff on him. The film would then work on multiple levels. Heck, you could even call it a post-modern sci-fi action thriller if you were so inclined.
Below: Hopefully “Gemini” will turn out better than this Arnold clone movie.
