Now this sounds like an intriguing idea for a TV show — one of the producers of the TV show Chuck has sold the idea for a Western drama to FOX. But what’s really cool about this Western is that it has a sci-fi twist. What exactly is that twist? Well it wouldn’t be a twist if people knew, would it?
Chuck producer Scott Rosenbaum fills THR in on his idea:
Described as an epic Western with a sci-fi twist, the show will revolve around “a gunslinger caught between worlds” and will feature a nod to “Planet of the Apes,” said Rosenbaum, who is executive producing with Wonderland’s McG and Peter Johnson.
“What I’m really interested in is the revamping of the Western genre where you still have all of the iconic Western themes and iconic Western tropes but the idea is that it will feel incredibly contemporary and will introduce the Western to a whole new generation,” Rosenbaum said.
This just appeals to me on so many levels. I’m a Western freak, and I also love me some sci-fi. Combine the two, and it’s the perfect show. Of course, the only reservations I have is that it’ll show up on the FOX network, and we all know what morons FOX is when it comes to scheduling, and then backing their own shows, especially genre ones.
Of course, sci-fi + Western immediately brings to mind Joss Whedon’s Firefly. Which, let’s not forget, also met its untimely demise on FOX…
