I’ll admit it: I haven’t watched a whole lot of The Eleventh Hour on CBS, although I did catch the pilot and the next four episodes or so. I liked what I saw, but it was probably too procedural for my taste, with the usual “scientific crime of the week” deal that CBS has made bank off with the CSI shows and their ilk. Basically, CBS is the network for procedural crime shows, what with all fifty CSI shows, The Mentalist, NCIS, and pretty much every show on the network that isn’t a comedy. In that sense, it’s no surprise that Eleventh Hour seems to be doing very well, if not exactly gangbuster ratings. Enough for the network to order five more episodes (short of a full season), anyway.

THR has the news:

The Warner Bros. series has averaged 12 million viewers on Thursday nights this season — the second-most-watched new show behind CBS’ “The Mentalist.” In the adult demo, “Hour” has averaged a 3.3 rating.

As with comedy “Gary Unmarried,” CBS has opted for a pickup that totals less than a full season. CBS presumably plans to try another program in the show’s valuable post-”CSI” time period before the end of the year. Possible contenders include “Harper’s Island” or shifting Wednesday night’s “The Mentalist.”

“Hour” has struggled to retain its hefty “CSI” lead in yet has rated a consistent adult demo second-place in its 10 p.m. slot behind NBC’s “ER” (which is in its final season) and ahead of ABC’s fellow freshman drama “Life on Mars” (which shifts to Wednesday nights next year).

The show stars Rufus Sewell as a brilliant scientist who works for the FBI to solve scientific crimes. He’s aided in his quest by the gorgeous Marley Shelton as his FBI handler and protector.
