Despite poor box office and generally “meh” critical reviews and mostly indifferent moviegoer word of mouth, David Duchovny insists there is still an audience for another “X-Files” movie. The audience is out there, if you will. Ahem.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Duchovny breaks down his current thought process on another potential “X-Files” movie:
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
He defends last year’s widely panned I Want to Believe, as well as the polarizing last few seasons of the television run:
“I was happy with it… I have nothing but respect for [X-Files creator] Chris Carter and the writing staff.”
Gillian Anderson has also expressed a desire to [...]

Take this news with a grain of salt, all you “X-Files” fans out there, but according to Gillian Anderson (Scully herself), a sequel to last year’s poorly received (not to mentioned poorly titled) “X-Files: I Want to Believe” is being scheduled for a 2012 release. Possibly.
First of all, the original source of this X-Files news is a French article, and as we all know, the French are foreigners, and foreigners can’t be trusted. Just kidding! Don’t send me hate mail! Ahem. Anyways, according to various translations, what Anderson said was, Yes, she would be willing to come back for a third “X-Files” movie, and she expects one to be released sometime in 2012.
Or at least, that’s one of many translations of the original article by the boys at XFilesNews.com. Keep in mind, though, that these guys run a site about the X-Files, so they’re pulling for another X-Files movie, even if no one else is, judging by the lackluster showing [...]

Really? The Powers That Be are actually considering a third installment in the “X-Files” franchise, despite the beating the second film took at the box office? Apparently so. Or at least, according to some guy who knows some guy, who wrote in to Dread Central telling them about it. As DC states, I think this is just wishful thinking, especially considering how awful “X-Files 2: I Want to Believe” did. Seriously, really? A sequel to a sequel that no one wanted in the first place, and those who got it didn’t even liked it? Wow.
Anyways, here’s that email someone sent to Dread Central:
“I understand – there was room for improvement … and there still might be. I work for Screaming Death Monkey and Spotnitz – the TERRIFIC Frank Spotnitz – told us this week that the team have already spoken about the next X-Files film. It’s likely the next release will go direct to DVD – but they’re working on [...]
